There are a lot of people who don’t know about open source or don’t care about it enough whether its due to lack of knowledge or will.
Both are understandable yet the end result of this is that there are a lot of corporations which try to exploit that ignorance and do things which are against the end user, all while the end user doesn’t even know that they can be liberated from such exploitation.
Open source is a love letter to life. It generally has no restrictions and is there for everybody, waiting to be used.
Open source has no agenda. The only agenda is to spread love from a developer who took initiative in making the world better.
There are multiple ways that somebody could contribute to open source projects and there are multiple projects that require that kind of support.
Whether its through financial (donation) or just joining and showing support to the developer and telling him how much the project matters to you or translating it into your own native language for other people/posterity to enjoy on, each of these is a selfless acts that’s beyond one person and can speak a lot about our society done right.
There is a sense of freedom in open source unlike no other thing. An innate sense that nothing is locked. You are in charge.
This last line might be terrifying to a lot of new comers of being in charge. They might not have ever used a terminal and it may be terrifying for them in the start, but I think that with just a little bit of patience and guidance and support, they too can weild the power of the terminal. It is like if someone is starting to learn to swim and you expect to swim in the depths of the ocean, we should first try to be patient and let them swim in shallow waters.
Open source is now. Its a things like no other and everybody can/should connect over open source.
I want to take the time to help people to gradually start discussing more open source. Sometimes its effortless, sometimes its a one time process, sometime it might require learning new things. But it shouldn’t frighten us and we should all be excited by the potential to learn this technology which can liberate us. Open source can unite us.
I want people to try things like signal. I want people to know about more open source stuff like linux and the amazing softwares in linux like okular, pinta and so so many others that are just there to help you..
I want to teach the new generation about open source. I am part of the new generation and let me tell you, although some people are interested, most people are terrified of future, myself included. We are exploring ourselves and learning and some people never get the time to discover these things and our generation might show a backwards trends of technical knowledge not knowing how to operate computers, Its a powerful wizard magic that I think that we should all be accepting to teach the new generation in enthusiasm.
These strangers, all around the word, working on a project whose philosophy is so novel definitely makes one realize open source as an unforgettable feat of mankind.
Everyone one of us has become so polarized that we don’t really know but we have a lot more similarities than differences and we can be wrong about things, I usually am wrong about a lot of things but there is fun in learning new things.
Open source is not all rainbows and sunshine, but it is far fetter to teach people about it with a sense of zeal. It is bound to have more positive impact and I thank everyone from my whole heart who has ever contributed to any open source project. A lot of internet’s backbone is built on open source and it wouldn’t have possible without it.
Many people have given up hope in political system for numerous reasons. My idea is that being involved in open source and good faith discussions in general with less polarization and judging could make people have hope. I certainly get hopeful and cherish things like a little child thinking about open source.
I might not be as great as a coder as many of you and certainly AI wants me to believe that I never would. It is great to code some scripts here and then but I am happy that open source doesn’t force me to be a good coder for it to be used most of the times. Things are being very simple nowadays due to flatpak’s and podman and sure there is a long way to go but from where I see, we surely have come a long way too and lets cherish that too.
I don’t know how to say this but I am not a coder. I am just a person in high school who does semi light coding but who loves open source a lot.
Its just I love it, and I want to spread that love. I want to share it with everybody with a smile in my face talking about matrix or xmpp or about making games in godot.
I want to teach people everything that I know about open source and in the process, learn more both about humans and open source too. I always want to learn more things.
I am just happy that in the world of commoditization, where nothing except profit matters when you think about things from a bird’s eye view. There are so many people doing so many selfless small acts and the act of listening to others, to understand and help people struggling from loneliness/bullying and also contributing to open source can be considered similar and should be respected and loved.
Thank you a lot everyone. I wish if we can spread more kindness and understanding to each other.
Open source gives us a way to truly “own” software and having rights to modify them and use them to our liking. No binaries, just source code saying “hi how’s your day, hope it was nice” when you open the code
These are a lot of words and I am trying my best to explain it. The point of this document is not open source but rather taking things in control in your life and improving life and how open source can be a meaningful hidden improvement for many.
There is also the sad fact that most open source contributers aren’t paid and they do voluntary work and I wish to change it by spreading the word of open source/showing people how there are some foss software which are even better than paid software and so we as a society should definitely try to reward that behaviour whenever possible.
I will try to create guides on open source to quickstart the journey and sharing the wonders of the software and hopefully be able to explore things. Definitely don’t know what to say except this is a draft of something that I want to share in my hopes of making the world even just a tiny bit better.
I really want to help other non profits / people to migrate from closed solutions to foss solutions and be a tech support for them too while hoping to make a living sharing the wonders of open source some day, atleast, that’s really my ideal thing that I want to do. I do not have a plan right now but I do have time and energy and I am going to figure out a plan to share it with everyone. This is still a early draft and I am going to keep it private or share it with very few people for the time being.
Have a nice day.
